Ashoka University, founded in 2014 in Sonipat (Delhi NCR), pioneered US-style liberal-arts education in India — built by a collective of 200+ founder-philanthropists including India's leading entrepreneurs, on a no-single-owner governance model. Its 3,000+ students pursue interdisciplinary majors across economics, computer science, political science, English, psychology, and the sciences, taught by faculty recruited from Ivy League and Oxbridge departments, with the signature Young India Fellowship as its founding programme. Ashoka's undergraduate admissions consider essays, interviews, and holistic profiles rather than board-mark cutoffs — a first at Indian scale.
