A University with a Difference — Excellence in Research and Liberal Learning
About
The University of Hyderabad (UoH), fondly called "Hyderabad Central" by its community, is a premier central university established in 1974 under an Act of Parliament. Spread across a breathtaking 2,300-acre forested campus in Gachibowli, UoH is one of India's most beautiful and ecologically rich academic settings, home to over 2,500 species of flora and fauna alongside its 5,500+ students and faculty. Awarded the coveted NAAC A++ grade and consistently ranked among the top 10 universities in India by NIRF, UoH stands as a beacon of interdisciplinary scholarship. Its schools span sciences, social sciences, humanities, management, engineering and technology, law, and fine arts. Internationally acclaimed for linguistics (home to the legendary Prof. K. A. Jayaseelan tradition), social sciences, life sciences, and theoretical physics, the university has produced generations of scholars, civil servants, scientists, and artists. UoH pioneered the integrated 5-year MSc programme in sciences long before such models became fashionable. Vibrant student life is anchored by Spandan — the annual cultural extravaganza — along with the legendary Abhimanch theatre group, film club screenings, and a buzzing music scene. Research centres like ACRHEM, CASB, and the Centre for Neural and Cognitive Sciences push disciplinary boundaries. With highly subsidised fees ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹40,000 per year, UoH remains one of the most democratically accessible world-class universities in India, welcoming students from every corner of the country and abroad.
