Normal People (2020) is Lenny Abrahamson and Hettie Macdonald's BBC Three / Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney's bestselling novel. Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones play Connell and Marianne — two young people from Sligo whose relationship defines their lives from secondary school to Trinity College Dublin. Paul Mescal received the Emmy and BAFTA nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor. The show became a global phenomenon during COVID lockdowns.
