Madras Christian College (MCC), established in 1837 by the Church of Scotland, is one of Asia's oldest and most prestigious liberal arts colleges. Located in Tambaram, Chennai, on a beautifully forested 172-acre campus, MCC is autonomous and affiliated to the University of Madras. The college holds NAAC A+ accreditation and has produced an extraordinary range of alumni — eminent scientists, Nobel laureates, judges, politicians, and artists — reflecting its tradition of holistic, values-driven education. MCC is particularly renowned for its science departments: Chemistry, Zoology, Physics, and Botany are regarded as among the finest in South India, as is the Economics department. The college offers BA, BSc, BCom, MA, MSc, and MCom programmes with an intake of approximately 5,000 students. Admissions are conducted through merit-based online applications, with most programmes requiring 90%+ in Class 12. Fees are affordable at ₹15,000–₹40,000 per year. MCC's campus life is among the richest of any college in India — the MCC Drama Club (Dramatics Association) is one of the oldest in Asia, and the college has deep traditions in western and carnatic music, debating, and literary arts. The annual cultural festival Festember and the sports festival Thomos draw thousands of participants from across India. NCC and NSS wings are particularly active in community service and disaster relief.
